Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening Rye

If you’ve become bothered by yellow teeth, you’re not alone. Many people find that in business and social events, they are uncomfortable showing their teeth. Everyone today seems to expect that bright white Hollywood smile.

There’s a simple procedure that can give you that bright white smile very easily. It’s called Teeth Whitening, and our patients love it.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening involves bleaching your teeth to make them lighter -- several shades lighter. The treatment can take several visits over a couple of months.

The dentist will take an impression of your teeth to make a tray that fits your teeth. Then you will get instruction on how to use it with a bleaching gel. Then, using your whitening tray at home, you regularly apply the gel for a specific period of time for several weeks. Your dentist will instruct you on how long to leave the whitening gel on your teeth.

What you should know about this procedure:

  • Results will last from a few months to several years – varying for every person.
  • If you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can stain your teeth, you will need the procedure more frequently.
  • Teeth whitening won’t work on veneers, crowns, fillings, or dentures.

Make sure you see only a registered dental professional for this procedure because it is illegal (and very risky) to have an unqualified person do the whitening, for example, in beauty salons.

You can only have your teeth whitened on the NHS if there's a medical reason for it. For example, you might want to lighten a tooth that has discoloured because the nerve has died.

Generally, teeth whitening by a dentist or other dental professional must be done privately as this is considered a cosmetic treatment.

If you have questions

We are here to help, so please ask any questions you have about this treatment. You may ask about the results you can expect and if the treatment is guaranteed for a certain period of time.

Also, you might ask about any risks involved – including sensitivity of teeth or gums after the procedure. You might also ask friends if they have had teeth whitening, and if they liked the results.

Greater self-confidence with teeth whitening

Most people are very happy to have bright white teeth instead of yellow teeth. They feel more self-confident about smiling and talking. There’s no need to hide their teeth! A spontaneous bright white smile can open doors to new opportunities. When you get teeth whitened, you take a major step forward in leaving a great first impression wherever you go!
